MMB – New TJ’s Products You Gotta Try!

Hi Everyone,

I hope you all had an awesome Memorial Day weekend and had the opportunity to spend time with family and friends!  Great effort by everyone who was able to make it out to classes this past week!  Let’s keep the commitment and consistency going as we head into the summer months.  As a reminder, historically the summer months are when we start to back off from our work outs and we start eating more with all of the summer fun opportunities!  Don’t let yourself slide!  Think of how hard you have worked all year to get to your level of fitness that you have right now?  Let’s stay committed to fitness together as we launch into the summer months.  Let’s look and feel our best this summer from the inside out!

In the spirit of what I’ve just mentioned, I want to share a quote with you.  This quote was shared with my by one of my personal training clients, Erin Taddeo.  Thanks Erin for sending this to me!  I think we all need to hear this!

Announcements and Reminders:

Cardio Core is tonight at Jen’s Studio!  If you’d like to join us for class tonight, please text or e-mail me.  Classes are from 5:45pm to 6:45pm and 6:55pm to 7:25pm. Classes at Jen’s studio

May Goals ContestYou have 3 more days to go!!  For this month, I want to challenge you to try something new in the realm of fitness and nutrition.  We are all creatures of habit and can get stuck in a rut and keep doing the same things over and over again.  I want you to think of something that you’ve always wanted to try or have been curious about and make it happen this month!  I’ll have a Goals box for you to write down a goal that you have had and COMPLETED!  I’d also like a few sentences about why you chose your goal and what it was like for you to complete your goal.  The winner will receive either 2 personal training sessions with me for 30 minutes or an $80 class card.  Need some ideas?

    1. Here are a few ideas:
      1. Hike a new location and/or try hiking for a longer period of time with more challenging terrain.  Think of Pinnacles National Park or Mt. Diablo?
      2. Try a water sport like paddle boarding, kayaking, or canoeing.  How about a white water river rafting trip?
      3. Try mountain biking – look for beginner course if you are new
      4. Commit to a walking club with friends once a week.
      5. Try a vegetarian restaurant or try doing green juice detox for 3 days
      6. Try living off homemade food for an entire week without going out.

New Veggie Burger Recipe from Mama Jen:

I just made these over the weekend and I wanted to share my new recipe!  These  were so good!  Leftovers are great too!

1 T coconut oil

1 medium onion chopped fine

4 cloves of garlic chopped fine

2 carrots chopped fine

1 carton of Crimini mushrooms chopped fine

1 egg

3 T tomato sauce

1/4 cup of Italian herbs (basil, thyme, rosemary, sage)

1/2 cup of ground almonds

1 can of pinto beans smashed up into a paste

sea salt – to taste

cracked pepper – to taste

In a medium size bowl, melt the coconut oil.  Add in all ingredients and mix well with your hands until ingredients are holding together well, like a thick paste.  Preheat oven to 375.  Use your hands to make into patties and put on a baking sheet.  Bake for about 18 minutes.

Add your favorite condiments!  They are delicious without the bun too, if you are trying to cut carbs!

Trader Joe’s new products to check out:

Check out TJ’s new organic green juice product!  This is the next best thing to juicing at home!  There are only 4 grams of sugar and the juice is very well balanced.  The price is great too at $5.99 for a 32 oz bottle.  The 15 oz bottle is $3.99 and has 11 grams of sugar, so this new product is a great improvement at a great price!

The second set of photos shows TJ’s new plant based cultured beverage made out of cashew milk.  It’s like Kefir, but not made out of cow’s milk.  This is a great product and if you are having issues with dairy, I highly recommend you try a product like this that will still give you the probiotic benefit, but without all of the inflammation from dairy.  It’s low in sugar too!  Wowza!  You can drink this straight or add to your favorite muesli or granola with berries for an awesome breakfast!

The third set of photos was taken at Costco, where I purchases Autumn Gold’s Grain Free Granola.  You gotta check out this product!  It’s a great blend of nuts, seeds, coconut, coconut oil, some cinnamon, vanilla, salt.  Fat 12g, carbs 10g, fiber 3g, sugars 6g, protein 4g.  sodium 95 g

A little goes a long way though, and you don’t need much of this.  1/4 cup is 160 calories.  So imagine if you eat 1 cup of this in a bowl?  That would be 640 calories before you even add the milk and other ingredients!  So, enjoy it, but eat it sparingly.  You could eat a 1/2 cup in the morning with some berries and some of the TJ’s cashew cultured milk and that would be a great quick breakfast.
