Thought for the week:  Spring Check In

Hey gang, how’s it going out there with your clean eating?  In my own life and in helping out my clients, I’ve noticed over the years that the topic of clean eating is something that we need CONSTANT reminding about!  Have you noticed that too?  If we aren’t intentional about our nutrition, guess what creeps in?  Yup, processed foods, high pleasure foods, more refined carbs and few fruits, veggies, and greens.  How are you doing in this area?  Do you need some reminding?  That’s o.k. if you do because all of us need reminding and encouragement every now and then 🙂

So how can we get back on track?  Well, make a list of what you don’t see in your fridge.  Do you have fresh vegetables and greens to make salad?  Do you have avocados?  Sprouted sees like hemp or pumpkin?  Lentils and beans?  Do you have ingredients to make homemade salad dressing such as balsamic vinegar, liquid aminos, dijon mustard, lemon juice, garlic, fresh herbs?

My suggestion is to make a large salad with two or three different types of greens such as spinach, romaine, and mixed spring lettuces and chop of a variety of veggies such as red peppers, cucumbers, carrots, celery, and tomatoes.  Add in sprouted seeds and top with slices of avocado and beans.

Do not toss your salad with dressing!  Make your hard work last by keeping the salad in the fridge and only taking out what you’ll eat.  Add a small amount of dressing to your salad in your bowl.

How are you doing in the department of hydration?  Are you adding lemons to your water?  Has it been a while since you’ve had a detox drink with lemon and apple cider vinegar?  Well guess what, now is the time to down the yummy tonic!  I know, it can be tough, but drink it fast and you’ll get it over with! LOL!  It’s SO good for you and your colon will thank you for it.

How’s your shut-eye?  Are you burning the midnight oil?  Hmmm, it might be time to reign it in and try and hit the sack by about 10pm. If you are finding that you are fatigued in the middle of the day and dragging, you may not be getting enough sleep.  Sleep = repair, so if you aren’t sleeping enough, your body is running low on reserves and needs proper rest.

O.k. so, if you are hanging out with me, I know you are working your fitness hard, but what about time to rest and stretch and roll?  Remember, healthy muscle tissue needs to be softened, lengthened, and strengthened!  Think – calves, glutes, hips, IT band, and back.

Living well is kind of like a part-time job.  It takes time, it’s not always convenient, and you have to keep doing it.  However, the pay-off is huge and if you put the time and work into your health, you will live better, feel better, and will live to your higher potential and capability.  That sounds like a pretty good deal.  What do you think?  Are you worth the effort?  I say……YES YOU ARE!

See you in class soon!
