MMB – Goal Check In
Good morning everyone,
I hope your Monday is off to a great start so far! It’s hard to believe we are already in the month of May! How are you feeling out there? Are you feeling good in your skin? Are you feeling energized and positive? I know this can be a super busy time of year for people as end of the school year activities and summer planning kick into gear. Make sure you are still carving out time for your work outs, good nutrition, and self care. If you are a bit off track right now and are feeling overwhelmed, take a look at your calendar and revisit your goals and see what has goon awry. What has squeezed into your calendar that has replaced the time you were committing to your health? Are you saying “yes” to too many things when you should be saying “no” a little more often? If so, don’t fret, but take a deep breath and start prioritizing the things that make you centered and more balanced.
Announcements and reminders:
- Class changes this week: My hubby is out of town this week and as most of you know, my boys are baseball players. This week kicks off the playoffs and Tuesday night is a very busy night with baseball commitments and activities. So, I will be cancelling Tuesday’s Cardio Fusion class and offering classes on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday night this week.
Wednesday – Cardio Fusion at Jen’s home studio – 6:15pm to 7:15pm & 7:20pm to 7:50pm
Thursday – Cardio Core at VBC – 6:15pm to 7:15pm & 7:20pm to 7:50pm
Friday – Boot Camp at VBC – 6:15pm to 7:15pm only (Beginners are welcome!)
Saturday – NO Boot Camp.
On Saturday, I will be attending a conference with one of my mentors, Mindy Mylrea, at her home in Santa Cruz for her workshop called One Day to Wellness. Mindy is a well known national fitness expert and has 35 years of experience teaching group exercise and personal training. I’m super excited to attend this special day with Mindy and hope to bring back lots of ideas and encouragement for you guys as you are walking the path of healthy living!
Thanks for your flexibility and understanding as I am moving the class schedule around right now. I try to be consistent as possible throughout the year offering my Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday class schedule, but there are times when classes need to be adjusted because of busy, growing boys!
2. Last Spring Fitness Challenge is Saturday, May 20th! Keep working it hard in your work outs and eating clean because we’ll be weighing in and measuring on the 20th! Let’s find out who the biggest reducers are out there!
3. Next Running Boot Camp is Sunday, May 21st at 7am! Meet at Jen’s house for an hour of running drills, strength and cardio!
4. Jen’s 8th year business celebration is on Saturday, July 15th! Mark your calendars for Saturday, July 15th and come hang out with Jen enjoying a bbq, time by the pool, a corn-hole competition, and time to hang out and reflect about our year in fitness, nutrition, and fun times together! Stay tuned for more details!
Thought for the week: Goal Check In
As I mentioned in my intro, it’s hard to believe it’s May! Wasn’t it January like a blink of an eye ago? Remember those New Year’s Resolution goals to lose some weight and be more active? How are you doing?
Have you ever noticed that goals can be annoying? Yes, I agree, but we need them don’t we? They are annoying because they make us look within ourselves and ask the hard questions. Without goals, there is no urgency or purpose to our actions. For example, if you never set any goals for being healthy, then you would just eat or drink anything that you wanted that tasted good. You would probably be eating a lot of junk foods that are full of sugar, salt, fat, and flavor enhancers. Why? Because you wouldn’t be mindful of any nutrition goals when you entered the grocery store or restaurant. When we are focused on eating healthy, then we are shopping down the peripheral isles of the grocery store looking for fresh fruits, veggies, and salads and are therefore living healthier.
So, take a look at your life and ask if there are any areas that need to be tweaked because you haven’t been mindful of them. Ask what your fitness goals are? Do you have a goal for how many times a week you want to work out? How do you keep track? Fit bit? Calendar? Strava? Are you running right now? If not, maybe it’s time to get your running shoes on and start with a walk/jog combo for 20 minutes to shake things up in your routine. Want more? Set a goal of running a 5K and give yourself an injection of an exciting and rewarding experience.
Do you know what else is annoying besides a goal? An accountability partner! Yup, that’s why we need them! It’s annoying being accountable to someone else, but it works! Set up a jogging schedule with a friend or an exercise class that you attend together. It’s hard to blow off a class when someone is counting on you, right?
Do you have a goal to lose weight? If yes and the number on the scale hasn’t moved in a few weeks, then something needs to be changed. It’s one thing to say, “yes, I have a goal to lose weight,” but if you aren’t doing anything differently to lose weight, then you really don’t have a goal. Actions speak louder than words right? When the words we speak and our actions match up, then we’ve got something cooking! Don’t just say you want to lose weight, but mean it by putting the work in. Work? Yes, work! This usually means something like front loading your smart carbs in the morning and tapering off as the day goes on. Refraining from refined carbs, sugars, and anything processed. It means eating combinations of proteins and fats with fruits and veggies. Small portions are a must as well as hydration with lots of water. Most of us are familiar with these things and have heard them over and over. Remember, we are a forgetful people and need reminders because if we aren’t reminded, we don’t do them!
I hope you guys are doing well with your goals out there. If you’ve made your goals and are in a coasting mode, then it’s time to shake things up again and challenge yourself with something new! I’d be happy to chat with you about that if you need some pointers 🙂
Have a great week and I hope to see you for classes on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday!
