MMB – Back to school, back to routine!

Hi Everyone,

I hope you all had a fabulous weekend and found time to move and enjoy the beautiful weather!  Great job to everyone who was able to make it out to classes this past week.  I know quite a few of you are wrapping up your vacations for the summer and are ready to get back into a regular work out routine.  What else is happening this week?  Back to school!  This is good news because it means the entire family will be back in routine. 

Announcements and Reminders:

1)Please read my blog post from 8/11 about my class changes.  Cardio Core is now scheduled on Tuesdays at my home studio and is by appointment only.  It’s small group training for up to four people and pre-paid cards still apply!  Class times are:

5:45pm to 6:45pm

6:55pm to 7:25pm

7:35pm to 8:05pm

If you are interested in attending tomorrow night, 8/15, please let me know.  I have room in my 6:55pm for two and 7:35pm for one.  Please text me at 925-699-7725 or e-mail at jen@jenallanfitness.com to sign up!  My address is 4738 McHenry Gate Way in Pleasanton.

2) Next Running Boot Camp is on Sunday, August 27th at either 7am or 11am, depending on weather.

 

Thought for the week: Back to School, Back to Routine


Whether you have kids at home or your kids are grown, you know that it’s back to school time. There’s a vibe in the air full of anticipation for the new school year, new friends, and of course, dreaded homework!


For parents, it usually means saying good-bye to the looser schedule of summer and getting back into the routine of earlier bed times, alarm clocks, packing lunches, coordinating car pools, juggling sports activities, and trying to keep your head on straight to get it all done!


While fall can be quite hectic, it’s also a great time of year for you to reevaluate where you are in your health and if things need to be adjusted. Summertime has a way of creating a more relaxed atmosphere and often times, workouts go out the window.


If you have backed off from your regular fitness routine and have gained a few pounds, don’t fret! As the kids are getting started back up with school, this is your time to get started back up with your fitness and clean eating routine so that you can feel great this fall feeling good in your skin and body image.


Here are some tips to help get you on track again:


1) Set your alarm earlier so you have time for a morning work out. There is nothing better than a morning work out for energizing your mind and body. You’ll be ready to take on the day when you have good blood flow and oxygen flowing throughout your body. Plus, you’ll have an little extra kick in your step because you know you got up early and challenged yourself to get your work out in! You’ll have a, “yes, I did it” feeling 🙂


2)The jeans check. Have you put your jeans on in a while? Well, it’s time. Go put them on and see how you are doing? A little snug? Get mad it and do something about it. Balance out the equation. Take fewer calories in and watch those portion sizes.  Eat smart carbs, heart healthy fats, and more plant based protein.  Really watch the processed foods because they are low in nutrients and high in sodium, transfats, msg, artificial flavors and sweeteners, and are a chemical concotion!  Do you jeans fit just right? Do you feel good?  If so, keep up the good work!


3)The salad challenge. Have you slipped a bit in eating your greens? Fill up on salads! Two or three times a week, make one big salad in a bowl without the dressing and keep it in your fridge. This way, when you are hungry, you’ll always have a salad ready to go. Don’t forget to add the proteins in and go veggie often. Go for beans or lentils on top of your salad. Add avocado and a sprinkling of walnuts or seeds. Use salsa instead of cream based dressings. And for heaven’s sake, stay away from Ranch Dressing!


4)Go harvest healthy. Do you start salivating at the mere mention of pumpkin treats? Apple pie or muffins? Take your favorite harvest treats and make them healthy. Do you like oatmeal in the morning? Add 1/2 cup of canned pumpkin with some nutmeg and cinnamon. Voila – pumpkin pie oatmeal! Do you like apple pie? Bake some apples in the oven and sprinkle with some nuts of seeds. Put in a bowl and dollup with greek yogurt and a little honey. Yum!


5)Running Club? Races? Find a local 5K or 10K race to do. The fall always interesting races all over the bay area. It’s so healthy and good for you to set a goal and if it’s been a while since you’ve run, now is the time to start up again and sign up for that race! Start a lunch time run club with your coworkers or friends. Why not?


6)Do you have an app to help you track your fitness?  Are you using your app?  If it’s been a while since you’ve logged in and tracked your fitness, maybe it’s time to start it up again.  Reminders are helpful and while they might be annoying, hopefully they’ll nudge you into moving more. 

If you are off track right now, stop beating yourself up and refocus on how you want to look and feel.  Plug into positive people who will uplift and encourage you.  Remember that you are worth the effort because you only have one body and one life to live!  Make it count.
