Thought for the week:  1/2 the Year Check-In

Can you believe we are almost half way through June?  I don’t know about you, but in the last two weeks, I have attended two graduation ceremonies and a memorial service.  It’s humbling to take part in these monumental milestones and realize that time marches on faster as we get older.  Have you noticed that?  One of Bob’s uncle’s once compared life to a roll of toilet paper and said, “Life is like a roll of toilet paper.  The closer you get to the end, the faster it goes!”  Also, I think it’s a very good and healthy thing for us to attend memorial services because it makes you pause and reflect on your own mortality and ponder about your own legacy.  What do you think people will say about you when you leave this earth?  Have you served others well and loved people unconditionally?

The good news is that if you don’t like the track that you are on, you can CHANGE it!  Don’t settle for anything.  If you have a hidden dream hiding away in your heart, don’t wait!  Only the Lord Jesus knows how many days we have numbered on this earth. We all have a start date and an end date.  What lies between is the dash.  How’s it going with your dash?  Are you making the most of what you’ve been given?  Are you satisfied and fulfilled in your life?  Do you feel well balanced and healthy?

Since we are half way through the year, this is a good time to have a little check in with yourself and ask some hard questions.  Be honest with yourself.  Are you carving out time for self care?  Solid work outs?  Clean eating?  Are you watching your tongue and spewing out negativity or are you only speaking positively?  Are you making memories with your family and friends?

If you are off track in some of these areas, then readjust.  You know how I’m always talking to you guys about pattern overload and being mindful about your work outs and if you are stuck in a rut?  This concept not only applies to your work outs, but to all other areas of your life too.  Some times we need a shake up in other areas of our lives too.  Are your current group of friends a positive influence on you?  Are you letting work stress rob your joy for the day?  Is your marriage relationship stagnant and you’ve stopped taking date nights or doing special things together?  Does this make sense? Think of the wellness wheel which includes these areas:  Nutritional, Social, Environmental, Purpose, Recovery, Financial Security, and Movement.  Do you need a shake up in any of these areas?  If one of these areas is grossly off track, it will impact the other areas and diminish your success.

Here’s the thing – we all stray off course every now and then.  It’s normal.  We are human.  What’s not healthy is if we linger too long in any one area and become depressed and stuck.  This is where routine can really help.  If you are blue about something but are still staying focused on your work outs, then you’ll most likely have community and friends around for support.  The endorphins that are released in your body will help you manage the blues and deal with them in a more constructive way.  The worse thing we can do is stop moving all together because now the stress builds up and becomes a spiral down in our lives instead of a spiral up.  Make sense?

So friends, take a few minutes to pause and reflect about where you are half way through the year.  Are you off course?  No problem.  Just – readjust!  You can do it.  You are worth it.  You are empowered with tools.

See you in class soon!
